The rigid canvas is glued to a solid backing board (hence the name) and framed with a ¾-inch molding. It is available in smaller sizes (9x12, 12x16, or 18x24), making it an ideal choice for displaying on a shelf, creating a gallery wall, or giving as a gift.

Stretched canvas, on the other hand, is stretched over a discreet wooden frame and then framed with a 1 1/2-inch molding, twice as thick as that of rigid canvas. Because the canvas is stretched, it produces a slight drum effect when tapped. It is the perfect solution for medium to very large formats.

To choose the ideal size, start by measuring your object and applying the 2/3 rule. For example, if you want to place a canvas over a 60-inch buffet, the canvas should measure approximately 40 inches, which corresponds to a size like 40x30.

You can also visualize the result directly on your wall by using painter's tape (the famous green tape) to trace the outline of the canvas.

All our canvases are exactly as shown; for example, a 40x30 canvas actually measures 40x30 inches, including the frame.

To choose the ideal color for your frame, start by observing the wood tones present in your room, including the floor:

• If you have pale, sand-colored wood, opt for a Light Natural frame.
  
• For more brown tones, much like a cardboard box, choose an Oak Brown frame.
  
• If the woods are very dark, sometimes with a slight reddish tint, Walnut Brown will be perfect.

Quick tip: the shades don't need to be identical, they just need to be in the same range; the overall result will be harmonized.

You can also coordinate your frame with the room's accessories: for example, if many elements are black or white, a black or white frame can create a nice balance.

Finally, you can base your choice on the work itself: for a painting with varied brown tones or a black and white work, choose the frame that best highlights the whole.
